MC MUNK aka MUNKIMUK

MC Munk or Munkimuk is an MC, breakdancer, music producer and radio broadcaster. 

Performing since 1984, he has been working in the music industry for 30 years and has mentored & produced countless artists and acts both in Australia & Asia. He is also an accomplished freestyle MC and has toured internationally. In 2014 he released his "Renegades Of Munk" project and in 2014, featuring an all star cast of guests. He has previously been a radio presenter on 93.7FM Koori Radio, ABC Radio & Channel V, on TV. 

In 2014 he was inducted into the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame.

BrothaBlack | SWS - South West Syndicate

BROTHABLACK

Brothablack, is a Sydney-based Indigenous Hip Hop performer.

As well as being part of South West Syndicate, which he joined in 1993, he is also a solo artist and has worked as an MC for The National Indigenous 3on3 Basketball and Hip Hop Challenge, performed at the Big Day Out and released a solo album More Than A Feeling, which received extensive airplay on Triple J. In 2007 he teamed up with Hilltop Hoods to create a song for a campaign by reconcile.org.au highlighting indigenous mortality rates.

From series 1 to 3, he co-host Move it Mob Style with Naomi Wenitong.

BIG NAZ

Our resident car enthusiast Big Naz, is an MC and whilst not pursuing a solo career, has been a catalyst for the reformation of the group. He joined the group in 1989 and was the person that named the group in 1992. Lookout for some future solo releases from the big man of SWS.

DJ BLACK PRESIDENT

DJ Black President (DJBP) aka ex-NRL star Leo Tanoi provides the cuts and keeps the beats rocking for South West Syndicate. His name is taken from a radio show "The Black President Show" on Koori Radio 93.7FM that he hosted for 10 years. DJBP plays Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae, Neo-soul, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Electronic, House and Experimental music or anything that has soul !! DJBP has been a DJ for over 20 years at pubs, clubs, exhibitions, events in the arts and culture sector including festivals and major events.

MIKOEN

Mikoen is a Sydney based MC & founding member of HipHop crews: Reverse Polarities, Daily Meds, Bomb Threat & Big Village Records. Starting out as a freestyle battle MC in 2004, as a solo act as well as a member of his respective crews Mikoen has performed hundreds of live shows including several Australian tours & released 2 EPs, 4 albums plus dozens of songs on collaborative albums & guest verses. After an almost 3-year hiatus Mikoen returned to music & formed Bomb Threat in 2017 with his partner Aisha, Codeks & veteran producer Caustic Yoda. In 2018 Mikoen was welcomed to the SWS family where he has continued to fire on the mic.

zeadala

Zeadala is a South-West Sydney based poet and musician and actor who avidly addresses themes of social inequality, politics and self-reflection in her works.  The word Eadala itself is an Arabic one meaning justice- aligning with her desire to uphold fairness, honesty, and equality. As a woman of colour, a performer, and mentor, Zeadala challenges normative narratives within society with her raw and unique style, simple yet rhythmic guitar compositions, soothing vocals and vastly bold lyrics. It is no wonder she has supported international artists like Omar Offendum (US) as well as Rebel Diaz (US). She is a  welcome addition to the SWS crew. 

IZZY

Izzy is a proud Kamilaroi man with both Greek & Ukrainian heritage born & raised in the Western Suburbs of Sydney.
Whether alone or as part of ‘Izzy n the Profit’, Izzy has put in the hard yards for hip hop culture. Izzy has a very potent lyrical approach to songs and is not afraid to approach a difficult topic and tackle an issue in a track with honesty and heartfelt lyrics.
He is also an incredibly gifted freestyle emcee who speaks from the heart. He has an acceptance & understanding of people that makes a great impact which makes him a perfect fit in South West Syndicate.

Serious | SWS - South West Syndicate

 

SERIOUS

Serious is a first-gen Bboy and Graff writer hailing from Mount Druitt circa 1982. Born to a Rotuman father and Australian mother, his mixed heritage has shaped his identity which lends itself perfectly to the cultural connection he has to the principles of hip hop. 
As a young adult he played an integral role in forming hip-hop foundations through his work teaching community hip hop classes for young students. Serious is the original founder, producer and MC of Campbelltown’s first hip hop crew “046” and played a significant part in cultivating a hip hop presence in South West Sydney since 1989.
In joining the South West Syndicate family, Serious is set to realise his dream of building on what he started decades ago.

CORZ

Corz is an Australian hiphop artist who started out in Mount Druitt in the mid 80s and went on to become a founding member of Campbelltown's first hiphop crew '046'. Corez now joins the ever evolving, multi artform hiphop crew 'Southwest Syndicate

JPOINT

JPoint started his hip hop journey when he DJ'ing in 1998.  By 2001 he had turned his focus towards Music Production. Around this time he joined a group Suga Heightz, behind the decks. After 12 years performing, JPoint found his own voice & released a solo album "Eklectic Methodz", & has been building his stage presence ever since. JPoint followed that up with an EP. “The Black Jason Statham”. In 2018 he released an album “86400”, which showed a growth and maturity in his music. Also at this time he has been performing & making tracks with South West Syndicate.

 

SAJ

SAJ aka Tristan Field is a well-rounded performer across music, dance & acting, and is a graduate of the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts. He also has been part of the Bangarra Dance Theatre team travelling all over the country. He now is part of the Sydney Opera House production team working with acts like Wu-Tang Clan and the Cure. SAJ is also lending his musical skills collaborating on a heap of projects as well working on his own solo releases. SAJ drives the high energy sound of South West Syndicate with his guitars providing the soundtrack for the crew to do their thing.

DAVE MARSALIS

Dave Marsalis first came to Australia in 1980. He appreciated the opportunities Australia had for aspiring musicians in the 80’s and decided to stay. He quickly became an in demand session drummer working for Joe Camilleri , Dave Faulkner and Kevin Borich. He then became part of the Mushroom Records hit making machine. He has toured and recorded with the likes of Divinyls, Dragon, Archie Roach, Christine Anu and Yothu Yindi just to name a few. He has continued to be employed by a wide variety of Australian and international acts including Earth Wind and Fire and 10CC. He provides the rhythm, drums and beats for South West Syndicate.
